The Itinerary

Quicksilver takes you to Agincourt Reef, at the very outer edge of the Barrier Reef. Here, special reefs known as ‘ribbons’ run parallel to the Continental Shelf. Adjacent to the Coral Sea trench, these ribbon reefs are recognised as the most pristine eco-systems in the reef’s environment. Clear water provides the best possible underwater visibility, encourages rich coral growth and supports spectacular marine life. As the region’s outer reef pioneer, we chose the best location available to show you nature’s finest.

Snorkelling is one of the many activities included in your day and is one of the best ways to view the incredible underwater world of the Great Barrier Reef. Our friendly crew are on hand to show you how. On your journey out to Agincourt Reef, you can view an instructional video on how to snorkel to teach you the right techniques.

Upon reaching the outer reef, you can obtain your snorkelling equipment from the storage containers on the platform. Easy access to the water is available from submerged platforms. Our friendly snorkelling safety officers can assist you with your snorkelling gear and give you a few tips so that you can fully enjoy your experience.

*To assist children to obtain the best experience from their day at the Great Barrier Reef, snorkels, masks and fins are available in child sizes. These are located in storage bins at the top of the steps leading down to the snorkelling platform. Please make your selection before making your way down to the water. Should you require assistance then please don’t hesitate to ask one of our Snorkelling Safety Officers for help.*

Semi-submersible coral reef viewing tour:

Even without entering the water, you can stay dry and explore the stunning reef from the comfort of a Quicksilver sub.  Seated just one metre underwater, experience a diver’s view of the reef as you glide slowly through the reef lagoons and colourful coral gardens in air conditioned comfort.

From the wide viewing windows, the reef is revealed in its full glory before your eyes. Marvel at spectacular coral formations thousands of years in the making and home to an amazing array of exotic rainbow-coloured tropical fish. With some of the highest biodiversity in the world, some 1500 species of fish are found in the Great Barrier Reef! What will nature reveal to you today… spy the reef shark, colourful parrot fish and butterfly fish darting amongst the corals, sergeant majors on patrol, schooling giant trevally or a graceful sea turtle gently swimming by in this underwater kingdom..

The semi-submersible coral reef viewing tour takes approximately 25 minutes and includes an informed commentary on the marine life observed during the journey and an overview of the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. Semi-subs depart every fifteen minutes from the rear of the platform. Announcements are made to prompt you before departure.

Underwater Observatory

Watch the fish feeding from Quicksilver’s unique viewing platform and underwater observatory located directly in front of the platform. From here, you can also view “first time” divers taking part in introductory dives. You can see the reef vibrate with the hues, stripes, and shimmering of a myriad of fishes.

Butterfly fish, parrot fish, angel fish and elegant nudibranchs dance before your eyes and coral gardens beckon you to explore. Watch, entranced, as a clownfish snuggles into the embrace of a sea anemone.

The Fine Print

  • Always swim in buddy pairs – it’s a much safer option,

  • Never look directly down when snorkelling, or your snorkel may turn into a drinking straw!

  • Keep your face looking forward, and ensure your snorkel is slightly angled backwards – this should keep your snorkel dry.

  • Certain medical conditions, medications and height restrictions may preclude some people from participating in optional in-water activities.

  • Snorkelling can be a strenuous activity. Please use caution and inform our crew of any medical conditions.

  • Underwater “digital” camera hire available onboard, limited numbers.

  • Professional photo service available onboard.

  • Baby change facilities on Quicksilver VIII, however not on Quicksilver V

  • The motion of a vessel at sea causes movement around a boat to be difficult and unstable. For this reason we must ask that access to the outside decks is restricted to children under the age of 14 unless they are accompanied by a responsible adult.

  • If you have any other special needs, please do not hesitate to ask any of our crew for assistance.

  • Swimming aids available for your childs use, ranging from kick boards to full flotation vests depending on childs swimming abilities.

  • Children 4-14 years.

  • Children under 3 years free of charge.

  • Family fare – maximum of 2 adults and 2 children of the same family. Normal fare applies for additional children. Not applicable with any other discount.

  • Please bring Hat, sunscreen and a shirt for sun protection

  • Cash for drinks at the bar

  • Credit cards for shopping and optional tours

  • Parking is available free of charge at the Marina.
